Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this “Low Income Housing”?
Answer: No. The sole intent of this development is to address the housing needs of seniors. Our goal is to offer solutions to Valley residents, 55 and older with a demonstrated need for change in their housing and service requirements.
Q: Will you offer assistance to residents of the facility?
Answer: Under the “Community Care and Assisted Living Act” we cannot advertise or indicate that we will provide these services without being licensed first. We can, however, commit to working with authorities, societies and residents to pursue these services should enough interest be expressed.
Q: How much will it cost to live here?
Answer: We cannot quote a specific number due to the diversity of the units and the services that we can offer. We can say that the cost of rent will be reflective of the current local rental market for a comparable unit.
FYI: According to 2013 statistics; in BC, an average one-bedroom unit with the addition of a single meal per day costs $2045. We predict that this can easily be achieved and perhaps decreased by as much as 20-30%
Q: What if I need to move from my house of 30 years and require services but cannot afford to pay the full rate?
Answer: We can connect you with a local representative who can advocate on your behalf to apply for subsidization through one of many programs available to qualifying applicants.
Q: Who can use the pool?
Answer: All residents will have access to and full use of the commons area. Families visiting loved ones who reside at the facility may arrange to use the pool under the supervision of the resident. Other groups and individuals will have the opportunity to book the use of the pool but may be required to pay a fee to cover maintenance costs.
Q: Is this project publicly funded?
Answer: No, this development is entirely privately owned and funded. We are currently exploring initiatives, grants, incentives and rebates that could allow for advanced efficiencies and attributes that may not be currently afforded. An example of this is the addition of an elevator to access the second floor of Phase 1.
Q: How many jobs will this development create?
Answer: We anticipate that for the purpose of Phase 1 construction there will a need for 4 – 6 skilled workers. Once the facility is operational, we expect to employ a manager and possibly 2-3 support staff as well as a need for a part-time grounds keeper. As additional phases of development are pursued there will be need for additional jobs that will reflect the magnitude of the facility and the extent of services provided. We wish to seek out partnerships with the Health Authority and a reputable training facility to explore opportunities to educate care workers within our community. This may result in additional employment to facilitate this training.
Q: What if I need short term relief from my current situation; can I get respite care?
Answer: We likely can provide a room and some supportive services to help you out. If you require medical services, this can be arranged through Northern Health’s Home Support Program. We can connect you with representatives that offer programs for additional care.
Q: My husband has Dementia and I cannot care for him 24/7. Can I get help?
Answer: Yes. Once our “Community Commons” building is completed we hope that it could lend itself capable of an “Adult Day Centre” where our staff would supervise, entertain and provide meals for your loved one in a protective, supportive environment for up to 13 hours a day.
Q: I need to move soon; how do I get on the list to move into Robson Valley Legacies?
Answer: Your best course of action is to fill out the questionnaire and provide as much information as possible. This will help us identify you as priority for admission and as we near a completion date we can contact you to make appropriate arrangements.
Q: I prefer to own my suite rather than rent. Can I buy an apartment?
Answer: At this time, the only way to own a suite within our complex is through the creation of a strata. This is a costly and time-consuming process with much legal red tape. We will entertain this as a possibility down the road should there be enough interest to justify.
Q: I would like to move but need storage? Is there a place for me to store my surplus belongings?
Answer: We have not provided spaces specifically for storage however, there is a small, covered patio/deck space on each unit. The feasibility of additional underground and attic space is currently being explored.
